Nick Raybould

I studied in Leamington Spa and Derbyshire in the late 70s and early 80s where a wild, rule breaking punk attitude was encouraged. This continues to seep through into my abstract paintings today.

Inspiration for my work also comes from my professional background in graphic design and strangely from years spent in performance and production of alternative rock music. Living out in the Shropshire hills also offers plenty of appreciation of natural forms to inform and inspire.

My paintings just seem to evolve. They never really follow any vaguely predetermined ideas. Instead, they grow and evolve as a series of ‘happy accidents’. Recurring themes often include geometry and symmetry. This is probably somehow something to do with musical rhythms.
