Nicol Vacaru

Working primarily with ink on paper, their artwork shapes ethereal silhouettes and subtle overlays of form, evoking an introspective atmosphere. Each composition serves as a window into the inner universe, where identity fragments and reassembles in the rhythm of black-and-white contrasts.

Alongside ink drawings, Nicol also creates unique string art compositions, a contemporary reinterpretation of line drawing using thread and nails. Without the use of any algorithm, each piece is hand-constructed with meticulous attention, echoing the texture and shading of pencil work—only reimagined in thread. This singular technique fuses craft with fine art, recalling the delicacy of drawing while adding a tactile, architectural depth.

Inspired by architectural structures, minimalist aesthetics, and abstract expressions of the subconscious, Nicol creates works that invite the viewer to discover their own reflections in the empty spaces between the lines.

I studied at the Art School in Orhei between 2000-2003, where I developed a strong foundation in fine arts. Later, between 2006-2013, I pursued architecture at the Technical University of Moldova, Faculty of Urbanism and Architecture. This background deeply influences my artistic vision, blending structural precision with expressive creativity.
