Paula grew up in Vancouver, Canada, daughter of a Japanese father and Dutch mother. Informed by West Coast nature, organic forms, water, mountains, often wild landscapes and a parallel study of human machinations, Paula's work is commentary on human condition and conditioning in found environment. Pieces are created as physical experience; works hang, swing, drape, become object, or result is in traditional form.
Her work is rooted in exploration, inquiry and curiosity and evolves from flat surface to three dimension or performance dependent on concept and context.
Her installations are experiences and participatory.
Paula is a graduate of Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver and has exhibited in Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan, Nigeria and Germany.
She has participated in artist residencies, most recently in Berlin Germany which led to a 3 year experience.
