Olympia Letsiou

I started sculpting in 2006 in an attempt to communicate stimuli from the world around us. Images, photos, scenes, impressions, music everything seems to be ‘conspiring’ to contribute to this effort, trying to find a way out. With sculpture I try to express people’s fears, anxieties, obsessions, expectations, joys, experiences and interactions with other people, their happiness and their misfortunes. In these years I have felt that sculpting can flirt, attract, lure, fascinate, seduce, defuse, take control over you- it enables you to take off, hover and soar and dream and introspect and land , come to a touch down. There is a sort of direct communication with clay, an interaction -being guided at times and leading at others – creating feels like a journey, a tour, with its itinerary and destination being vague, fuzzy and simultaneously clear, specified
Being given the chance to express feelings, concerns, thoughts and senses, to convey ideas , different notions and new worlds by means of sculpture is like a window to revelations, new paths opening before your eyes.

Born in Grevena, grew up in Veria currently living and working in Thessaloniki.

I have attended classes and workshops on pottery, ceramics, and sculpture and attended seminars on Art History at the Vafopouleio Cultural Center and a course titled Arts -Literature- Architecture in Contemporary Greece (1840 - 1940) at the Macedonian Museum of Modern Art.

Since November 2012 I have been a member of the Northern Greece Visual Artists Association (SKETVE) Since November 2012
