Paul Oldham

My work proceeds along two parallel paths. I feel dedicated to the preservation of our architectural heritage. I love restoring or replicating old leaded windows, continuing a legacy of increasingly imperiled craftsmanship. Traditional stained glass windows require adherence to an exacting process, and allows little room for improvisation. In my personal work I colour outside the lines. By overlapping pieces of glass in a kiln, I fuse the glass together without the need for a leaded matrix. I tend to simplify naturalistic forms in pursuit of a universal primitivism. In the distance, I see my paths converging.
