Pedro Morales

Born in Los Angeles, California. Presently continuing work on a series of paintings called "veils" The idea of veils is that some of the veils we perceive the world through are: age, gender, race, nationality, education, religion, political affiliation, etc. We are a construct of these veils, everything we see is tainted with these, with meditation these veils are removed, unveiling wisdom and we are able to perceive reality as it is.
These paintings are an exploration and interpretation of this idea.

The painting process is the accumulation of layers of oil paint and aerosol paint on the surface which is an analogy of the accumulation of identity of a person and the solidification of that identity "i am" , then the removal of layers of paint as an analogy of the stabilization of mind and emergence of insight as the elimination of false conceptual identity. The orthogonal shapes on the surface are interpreted as rigid, non organic shapes "concepts" where the background has depth, space and light, interpreted as pure original mind unveiled, the human potential, enlightenment!
