Joyce York was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She came to Oakland when she was very young and was educated in this area. She graduated from Berkeley High School class of 1947. Joyce has always been interested in art and began her studies under well-known mother-daughter artists, Elizabeth and Patricia Hubbell of Walnut Creek, California. She attended the College of Arts and Crafts of Oakland; also studied under Stephen Baumann of San Jose, California and the talented portrait teacher, Kumi Pickford also of San Jose, California. Joyce has painted for over 40 years. Her work has extended from redwoods, landscapes, seascapes, floral designs and portraits. Many of Joyce's paintings depict the memories of people from her childhood. Some of her early work was sold by Emporium-Capwell and she has exhibited throughout the Bay Area. Joyce is a nationally known artist and her paintings have been sold to many art lovers. Joyce is now retired from painting but continues to show and sell her works. (Allow 2 -3 weeks for paintings and numbered prints to be shipped. Depends upon current availability. Contact us for more information.)
