Christiane Rancelot

I was born in 1948 in the north of France.
I now share my life and painting time between France (Bordeaux) and Florida (Naples).
I also like to play golf.

I studied art in the "Beaux Arts" academy of Lille and practiced a lot nude drawings.
After an abstract period in the 80ths I came back to the figuration as a full time painter.
Aesthetics,beauty of men,women, children are my inspiration through different activities like sport, golf, walking people in the street, mother carrying a child, children in the swimming pool...
I paint trying to preserve the authentic character of what matters most to me, what attracts me and corresponds to my aesthetic sense. I have a particular interest in people and in movement. Although my representations are unique, they may often give an impression of « déjà vu » : a child swimming, a girl with a pearl earring (harking back to Vermeer), a man with tattoos...
Snapshots which illustrate the ephemeral are often my starting point. My interpretations of water are compositions seen through the filter of blurred and changing reflections, transparencies which destroy the image and render it abstract. These fleeting water-light interactions force me to constantly reassess what is abstract and what is figurative.
