Salvatore Caputo

Art has always been my greatest passion. My childhood memories are full of drawings and colours. My first solo show was launched in 1964, when I was sixteen. Since then, my works have described my world in different ways – they’ve gone through the Surrealistic and Metaphysical poetics to finally achieve a complex Figurativism, where reality is only one of the features that I describe.
I was born in a village in the eastern part of Sicily in 1947, then have been living and working in Palermo since 1968. The different landscapes of my island have strongly influenced my paintings, especially the most recent ones, where the colours and light of the Mediterranean Sea play a leading role. My production mostly includes paintings and art objects, along with sculptures, medals and different graphic works.
