Richard John Sauter

New York City artist, presently living in Bali. My background is in classical fine art, starting with sketching from life at the Art Students League in 1954 and always favoring figurative art, though for the last 2 decades I have been interlacing it with new media fine art, while getting deeper involved with design engineering and state of the art naval architecture




So I would say that my more recent artworks, though still mostly figurative, is non the less connected to my heavy involvement with applied science,and CAD


To my understanding Art in all of its manifestations is also a Science. The art of doing something describes ones real know how, not ones feelings. I believe our so called instincts, are not feelings but knowledge we possess without recognizing we possess it. .

5 different Art Students League scholarships

Scholarship to Cooper Union 1962 and a 4 year Grand Tour ( 1 year in Paris) spending a good deal of time studying the Masters at every major museum in Europe.

Living in Manhattan, many years and hundreds of hours studying great works of art at The Frick, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the MoMA
