Shamus Stewart-Sergeant

I’m a 23 year old who lives and works on Waiheke Island. I create art because its how I express feeling, what I'm thinking, and how I experience every day life. Though colour and physically applying paint to the surface of the canvas. Im really interested in the movement I can create within a piece, through thick and thin lines, different layers, shapes and colours interconnecting with each other. I'm influenced by the current of the ocean, the wind playing with the trees and the sun light rebounding off surfaces. Im intrigued by the outcome of applying paint through arm and brush reaching across the canvas, the brush moving to its own rhythm. The splatters of paint that form shapes, the space between and the colours that become. The different colours bouncing off each other, creating more flow between each stroke, drip, scrape and splash.
