Nico van Dongen’s artwork is best described as a fusion between photography and sculpture, where every day, sceneries are transformed into dynamic, time-based creations.

The artistic delves deep into the delusion of reality, scratching away to reveal the illusion of what we perceive as real. In doing so, the artist blurs the lines between reality and imagination to expose what’s hidden beneath our perceived experience, opening a door in our search for beauty and truth.

Through this innovative work, the artist invites us to ponder what constitutes reality and how the art of observation can lead us to a richer awareness of our world.

In the real world, we absorb scenes around us with our senses, as our attention constantly shifts. The camera is used as an instrument not to replicate what the eye observes, but the refractions of light camera captures. While in motion we register still images as the experience. I translate this visual journey through time and space, as a single 2-dimensional experience, carefully created by overlaying multiple images. I am driven by an insatiable curiosity of, how our visual experiences are connecting with our mind.
