Sophie Delest

The Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Lliosa once said: „Life is a shitstorm, in which art is our only umbrella.” I want to introduce this umbrella into the space of our everyday life.
I am an artist, translator and poet. I am running different artistic projects. Their various concepts rely on the basic idea: In a world ruled by shopping centres I fight for space for art in our everyday life. The battle is already lost, because art doesn't adhere to the requirements of the market. However, it does not mean for me to give up so easily. As a Polish I am a representative of a nation that in the past fought hoplessly for things it believed in. So do I.

Education

1992-2008

Drawing and various painting techniques lessons under the supervision of visual artists:
in Atelier "Kolor" at artistic school for young people; in the creative center "Rondo", at ŁDK and at Art Academy of S. Szrzemiński in Lodz (Poland)
Art study trips among others to Italy, France, Spain and Austria
Numerous seminars in the field of art at the University of Lodz at the Faculty of Cultural Studies visited as part of philological studies
Participation in theatre workshops at ŁDK in Lodz (Poland)

2003-2009 

Dance training and performances with Alicja Moreno and Małgorzata Wilczyńska– a graduate of the Manolo Marin dance school in Spain, director of the International Festival of Spanish-Language Culture "Viva Flamenco" and the Festival of Customs and Traditions "Carnavalia" in Łódź (dance lessons and creative work paused due to an accident)

2007


Magister degree in German Studies at the University of Lodz. Specialisation: Regional and cultural studies extended by seminaries at the Faculty of Art and Culture. Dissertation about the image of foreigners in contemporary German film. The thesis has been considered to be equivalent to the level of a PhD dissertation.
