Svetlana Mihailescu

As a film costume designer, I've always been focused on the human figure, creating "portraits" of hundreds of characters, first sketched on paper and then materialised. In recent years, however, I've dedicated myself to graphic arts and painting, intrigued by the "traces" left by humans. Houses, gates, windows, roofs, walls, shadows, gardens, and fields—their structures and their place in our daily lives.

I try to decipher them.

This life of theirs is composed of the intertwining of human existences that created, animated, or simply passed through them. One needs to only see and listen to them. And yet, something remains unsaid, mysterious. They are, in fact, maps of time. Oils capture the garden, initially organised by man, but which takes the liberty to live and develop freely.

Graduated from the Nicolae Grigorescu Institute of Fine Arts in Bucharest, Painting under the tutelage of Professor Constantin Blendea (1974).

Studied drawing and painting under the guidance of master Vasile Grigore.

Attended courses at the University of Ottawa, Fine Arts department (1970 – 1972, Canada)

Completed summer courses at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes San Fernando (1972, Madrid, Spain).
