Tamar Payne’s mixed media collages and photography present a fractured viewpoint, exploring the visual tension in an image saturated digital world, where our gaze and sensibilities are divided by the urban and the suburban, the industrial and the rural, the analogue and the digital. The artist’s source material is often captured using an SLR camera and then realised using hand-pulled silkscreen print. In her work the artist acknowledges the visual language of the decorative and the sublime. The work uses visual affect to pull the viewer in to taking a closer look, seducing the viewer into the pictorial space, through the looking glass of landscape.
Tamar Payne is on the MA Painting programme at the Royal College of Art. She has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer exhibition, the Other Art Fair, the Affordable Art Fair and group shows in London. Tamar had her first solo shows in Autumn 2022 at the Rupture Exhibit Gallery in Kingston, West London and the WIA Gallery Sussex.
