Tracey Elizabeth Downing

‘My paintings are informed by thought, memory, everyday objects, and ephemera. I use vibrant colour in my paintings which are often described as joyful. My training and career as an Art Therapist informs the way my painting practice and visual language have developed since returning to painting more fully in 2016. My current body of work sits between realism and abstraction and refers to real objects gleaned from memory. The context from where this imagery comes is most often understood in retrospect.’

Tracey Elizabeth Downing has a BA Hons: Exeter College of Art & Design. She went on to study an MA in Art Psychotherapy; Goldsmiths College, UCL. Tracey works part time for the charity Studio Upstairs supporting Artists with lived experience of mental health challenges and delivers workshops for wellbeing in schools and with corporate groups. Tracey also offers coaching and mentoring to Artists on a 1:1 basis. She completed 2 years of The Turps Banana correspondence course 2019-2022, PG1 with The Contemporary Art Academy 2024. She exhibits regularly and has work in collections in UK and America. Tracey works almost full time from her Acme studio at Oaks Park, Banstead, Surrey, near her home in the London Borough of Sutton.
