Tracy Watt

Born in England I am a figurative painter dealing with contemporising the male gaze through the use of strong female charachters. These female worthies are taken from Biblical, Literary and Mythological tales. Source which have been utilised for hundreds of years by artists. But, I have taken possession of these visual narratives to retell the passive female nude. in my imagery the female nudes are large and somewhat distorted. They confront and engage with the viewer causing a psychological twist. Changing the supposed ideals of feminine perfection and the expected.I am particularly interested in the idea of self analysis via using owns own body as naked source. Combining this with the art historic context in which my paintings sit.

Initial art training at Oldham College, Greater Manchester.Graduated in 2002 from the University of Hull with a Master of Arts Degree in Painting.
