Ute Rathmann

"Edgar Degas said that "Drawing is the artist's most direct and spontaneous expression, a species of writing: it reveals, better than does painting, his true personality." Degas is one of the artist's that has influenced Berlin-based Ute Rathmann, whose stunning drawings of the human form are in many international collections. Inspired by old masters such as Klimt, Schiele, Toulouse-Lautrec and Goya, this graduate of the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee works from life models, dressing her subjects according to a particular theme, in order to explore the human body and how it relates to clothes, costume, fashion and fabric."
