Mapping the Unseen
Judhajit Bagchi & Ranadeep Bhattacharyya are internationally acclaimed filmmakers and interdisciplinary queer visual artists based in Mumbai, India. They co-founded Yaanus Films, with the mission to inspire self-discovery through art, offering transformative stories that bridge differences with empathy, foster justice, peace, and harmony.
With innumerable national and international accolades including National Award and Cannes Dolpin, along with Chairing as Jury of London Fashion Film Festival, their latest foray into narrative feature filmmaking with their gender fluid epic romantic drama Kal Baisakhi, they seek to entertain, connect, heal, and provoke introspection through transcending linguistic and cultural boundaries.
With academic training in film studies, visual art, meaning-making and semiotics, their collaborative artistic expression over the past decade, explores themes of freedom, desire, identity and spirituality in the context of human relationships with self and beyond. Inspired by poets and painters from the East and West alike, their visual style and storytelling influences is a delicate mix of poetic and classical on one hand and surreal and experimental on the other, often employing performative modes to unearth the ineffable, with evocative imagery at the heart of all their work.
