Yumi Miki is a photographic artist living in Los Angeles. Born and raised in Japan, she moved to NYC to study photography.
Just like Yin and Yang, the Sun and the Moon, her work reflects both lights and shadow. She believes that every human has brighter sides and darker sides in them.(such as sadness, loneliness etc..) In society, darker sides can be often considered as “not so good thing”. Yet, she believes that it is important to have both sides of emotions and having both creates a perfect balance.
Her photographic style was influenced by impressionist painters. Using a camera as her painting tool, she works with her own techniques and particular lights to create impressionism-like images in photography.
The concept of “emotions” also plays an important role throughout her works.
She tries to create melancholic moods in her photographs for the viewer to project their own thoughts and feelings into the images.
Her works have been shown in exhibitions in NYC, Los Angeles, and Tokyo.
