051626 update - My earliest memories of making art were my early school years, 1st - 3rd grade, watching colors from crayons and watercolors dance with reflections from the light across rough bumpy paper 😊 I'm still working with that fascination, alternating between smooth and rough, lines and blocks of color. It's best to say, at nearly 76 years of age, I'm finally beginning to accept I don't like doing only fields of color, or line-work, or abstract or representational. Here at Saatchi Art, I can present my smorgasbord of work in differing mediums or styles! I do think though, what has persisted is - my sense of awe with life - internal, external, and mingled. And that art, for me, gives me access to explore the mysterious sensation of being alive! Please feel free to contact me 🙏 😊 ❤️
Memorial Elementary Houston, George Washington Jr Hi, graduated high school at John H. Reagan in Houston; now more aptly and appropriately named Heights High School; reaching captain of one of 2 companies of cadets via ROTC. Associated of Arts at University of Houston Downtown via my GI Bill benefits, followed by a BA and MAs at University of Houston Clear Lake in theatre and literature. It was like I was too timid and protective to test applying my desire for art in a formal setting - in hindsight, probably a mix of both lost opportunities and preservation of the art inside. In the 80s, under John Stovall, I did finally take art classes, ungraded, ie audit, afterwards, at Galveston College. The atmosphere was extremely encouraging and helpful. And of course, the greatest teacher of all, life! Family, love, movement, sound, color - then back to love again
Update 051626
Nothing big yet, though I did very well at the Javitt's Center in NYC in 2007. So mostly local art clubs in and around Austin, in Galveston when we lived there (also did well there), plus an ongoing showing through a Vermont non-profit, SEABA. I'll try and post a pic or 2 of my wife and I at the 2007 NY show. Thankfully, despite age and other considerations, I can and am listing both as many older and newer works here at Saatchi Art as possible 😊 🙏

Update 051726
Though I currently don't currently display and sell work through these local art organizations due to logistics & family medical issues, I have sold a variety of sizes through the years here in Austin at : Creative Arts Society, Primal Gallery, Bee Caves Arts Society, and Old Bakery & Emporium (now a long standing non-profit across the street from the Texas State Capitol.
And finally, in 2nd grade at Memorial Elementary in Houston I did a watercolor to music with my classmates & it placed 2nd in a citywide exhibition of elementary school grade art. Times were very tough for us then but my dad took time from work for me to me see my small piece hanging with so many other students' art ❤️
