ADAM KELLER | ARTIST Bio Adam Keller is a Buffalo, NY based artist with a love for bold colors and imagery tied to his childhood and current moods. He looks to his youth as inspiration for his playful, elaborate and bright scenes. Due to his experiences early in life, he has gained an appreciation for the complexities of his surroundings in everyday life and popular culture. Growing up in Buffalo during the 1980’s with a mother who majored in interior design...meant for a very unusual upbringing in the urban steel town. Keller experienced a childhood full of garage sales, estate sales, and antique shops. Facing out back in the rear seat of their steel grey station wagon, Keller resorted to his imagination and gut feelings and began tapping into his creativity early, as they traveled from shop to shop, sale to sale in search of the perfect frame, picture, or rug. Upon viewing his work, you get a sense of the eclectic, musty, dark, colorful shops and homes he was exposed to in his youth. This leads to the chaos of his work and how it is tied directly to the chaos in his mind. As he explains, ‘painting is a release from the scripted and provides a platform for me to scream, shout, yell, cry, and laugh through my choice of color, texture, and composition. Every work I hate until I finally love, it is a torturous obsession.’ In Keller’s recent works, viewers will get a glimpse into his creative mind. It is clear he creates a reality based on a dreamlike feeling and utilizes colors that could be associated with public’s inner current feelings of current world issues. Keller makes his own rules when it comes to the space that he creates on canvas, in turn, leading the viewer to feel an escape from reality. Although there is depth to this concept, his paintings always have a sense of playfulness and often bring joy to the viewer instantly. ARTIST STATEMENT Painting is a release from the scripted and provides a platform for me to scream, shout, yell, cry, and laugh through my choice of color, texture, and composition. Every work I hate until I finally love, it is a torturous obsession.
