Katrina Boshammer

Ideas of youth, celebration and the notion of losing yourself in the moment have informed this series of works. My project is an experiential inquiry looking at the way in which youth culture is reminiscently embraced by making artworks that celebrate stories of my youth. By creating my own personal narrative I am also exploring the sociology of the contemporary culture in which I lead my gregarious lifestyle. This series incorporates both written and photographic mediums, and is pre-eminently the vehicle of the fleeting feeling of liberation that is being experienced.

I explore the process of narrative translation from the experience to a visual work of art by way of photo transfer. A photographic medium is integral because the experience is embedded within its visual context, and I engage in a type of play during the transference processes employed. These visual works are then combined with comical anecdotes in an attempt to encourage onlookers to not only access my experiences, but also their own experiences of halcyon youth.

By putting merit on youthful and spontaneous experience, I hope to encourage viewers to return to a feeling free from inhibitions, which is vigorously embedded in and associated with youth cult...
