Kim West is a painter. Her visual arts practice incorporates studio painting, mural making, and installation projects activated with collaborative performance.
West is best known for her murals in the downtown Los Angeles Arts District, including her 5-story Only One Way Through on Hauser Wirth, which has been described as “dreamlike” by the New York Times. West’s work engages with memories, washy landscapes, and color-forward botanical motifs – where the creation of fractured realities become allegorical events. Her developing exploration of layer-painting work literally and figuratively expands on notions of what happens when sacred memories begin to fade.
West works in Los Angeles, where she lives with her husband and two children.
Following studies in painting, printmaking, and photography at Smith College, Amherst College, and the Instituto de Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico,
West graduated from the painting department at Rhode Island School of Design.
