Since opening my first illustrated children's book I've discovered a passion for art.
My favourite medium is clay, rough and smooth. I love the physical act of creating a sculpture and the interaction between myself and the subject as it takes shape and finally develops its own personality.
Once my pieces are fired, they have a tactile feel and a natural aura, with an earthy quality and reassuring permanence.
I love the way light brings sculptures to life and changes their appearance and form.
Sometimes the subjects I choose to create are better suited left raw with no added effects; other times I choose to add oxides, glaze, or paint them. The skills I learned as an illustrator have given me a good armoury when deciding how I'd like my finished subject to look.
My favourite sculptor Jules Dalou's work was intended to be representative of the day and easy to understand; I like to think of my work in the same way.
Dogs and people are my main subjects, because they are what interest me most. They provide a huge diversity of expression, form and emotion.
Ultimately I aim to produce work that people will connect with and enjoy having in their homes.
I trained at Ravensbourne Art college and have worked in art since leaving at the height of the Punk era.
