Matteo’s art revolves around identity, the integration and disintegration thereof. Given his international background, fragments of self are found in places separated by oceans of difference in cultural attitude and identity. His search for belonging is clearly apparent as well as his sense of being a constant nomad of the global cultural landscape. His work is an attempt to reconcile the fragments of his own identity inspired by cultural differences that have a history of rejecting one another. His work ranges from abstract to figurative to experimental to outright primal. He considers himself a ‘messy’ artist, existing in a multiplicity of artistic personas that channel his being through their rampant creations. “In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order” - Carl Jung
