ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Harness is one of a twin. The piece is the sister of The Pipes, a similar collage work that employs vintage bits of French comic strips, sliced thinly and arranged to signal an emotional beating heart of a somewhat surreal narrative. I always use collage n my works. This piece is similar to works I recently exhibited in Weekend Plans my museum show at the Karuizawa New Art Museum, in Karuizawa Japan this past December/January 2020. MATTHEW ROSE lives and works in Paris, France. Known widely for his collage works and wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor installations, he graduated from Brown University (1981) with a degree in Semiotics/Linguistics. Influenced by Americans Ray Johnson, Jasper Johns, Joseph Cornell and a handful of French surrealists, Rose works late hours ripping apart paper and bits of text to remake contemporary life into a specific, yet unbound book, what the artist calls his “theory of everything.” "Most of my work involves collage; I cut and paste in all flavors.
