About The Artwork

The support of animal welfare principles is an important influence in my art. I am interested in how this subject matter can be represented in a non-representational way, as I want to deal with the subject matter indirectly. I take this approach because, I want to ask the questions that surround our ethical responsibility towards animals rather than answer it for others. I often use the hexagonal and grid structures as a point of control in my art, which has its origin from cages, fences, chemical codes etc., and then mix in other material cultural items that stem from the agricultural sector, such as in this instance the colours from the animal control product. This work is from a series of digital studies. This work is from a series that brings in a gestural-like emotional component in a gridded cage-like grid - part contained and part spilling out and escaping to the front of the picture plane.
