About The Artwork

I did this artwork talking about how people sacrifice through alienation their individual being just to fit into the society. This beautiful western society has also conflicts and problems and that is my sort of inspiration. The method that I chose to draw this is not conventional because between each layer of grafite there are layers of glue with water. I was experimenting this because is a technique that most of academies of art have forgotten. This artwork is glued to a wood plank and the side of the plank is 62cm x 83cm x 0,3cm

Mario Rojas Kolomiets is a Costa Rican artist and professor of painting and drawing. Born in 1984 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Lives and works in Costa Rica. At the beginning of his career, Mario Rojas Kolomiets represented in his artworks his own emotional experiences and how they influence an individual. Later the artistic message of his paintings moved from being individual to psychological and social, properly representing the Western consumer society in which he lives. The problem of modern societies worldwide is that people yield to "social values" when striving to gain power and pleasure, but such "social values" or so called "social morality" very often stay way aside from true values in people's lives. This dissonance creates the source of inspiration for the artist nowadays. The artist believes that people's ego and desires are concepts imposed by a society - that's why their true individuality is in conflict with their ego. He expresses his ideas in a very symbolic conceptual style at the same time using academic techniques.
