ABOUT THE ARTWORK

“A living being that is generally chlorophyllian and fixed to the ground, endowed with extremely discreet sensitivity and mobility, capable of feeding mainly or exclusively on mineral salts and carbon dioxide, and whose cells are usually limited by skeletal membranes of cellulosic nature. ". This is the definition of plant according to the Larousse Dictionary. In working on my series Plant Abstractions I wanted to start from elements of the plant world to arrive at forms which, viewed from a distance or in the whole of the composition, become abstract. Climbing or creeping plants, ivy, weeds, brambles, quackgrass, dandelion, thistle and field bindweed insidiously invade the space, gently or aggressively, with creases, bumps, interlacings, joinings, cracks, and make the painted figures slide towards the abstract. It is the curves, the lines, the vegetal textures, the colors that bring the whole towards abstraction; our imagination then transports us to fragile, lush, soft and complex lands. Evolving from the plant figure and freely reworking its forms: this is the new concept that takes me towards abstraction. Giving body and matter to the invasion of plants also means reversing the situation: humans have appropriated nature by seeking to destroy or domesticate it. He has long since forgotten that he is part of that nature. These invasive plants are reclaiming their living space; like humans, they can indeed live in a hybrid space by adapting to any seemingly hostile environment.
