This was the view of Mount Hiei that I could see from the window of my house in Kyoto where I lived for 17 years. This mountain in the northeastern edge of Kyoto city is an important part of Kyoto's history. It was believed to be a barrier to protect the old capital city from evil that was thought to originate from the northeast direction. The original is painted on 25 combined wood panels, which create the subtle grid pattern in the image. Size: 127.5 x 181.5 x 2 cm
