What awaits us, when there are only ruins left? This motive was inspired by the idea, that destructive forces always have a nostalgic, sometimes even romantic momentum. Obsessed with the paradoxical and contradictory in life, Malte Hein's impulses drive him to the beauty in the despair and vice versa. After many years as a misguided designer and illustrator, he let his artistic impulses take over, quit his (very dear) job in 2018 and focussed on fine art. After discovering sculpture as something very appealing to learn, Corona hit. Since then, oil and gouache paintings with images of barren, yet somehow appealing landscape and lost figures emerge in his process. Living in Berlin, he originally trained as an illustrator, rediscovered painting and sculpture after working in an agency for civil society organizations for six years. Since then, he's left the problem solving of the design process behind and trains himself in the noble art of letting go.
