About The Artwork

The Avar bride. When you think about the plot of a picture, your imagination draws a sketch in your head. Bright distinctive features and the feeling that the motif of the drawing brings to me. Remembering the characteristic pattern of one nationality of Dagestan, I thought about the traditions of the mountain peoples. And since the fate of women all over the world is close to me, an image immediately flashed into my memory. ! In the old days, the fate of children was chosen by their parents. Many families were formed by the mutual sympathy of the newlyweds with the blessing of their parents, but marriages of convenience often happened. Wishing for a better fate for their daughters, parents could marry them to a man much older or outwardly not attractive to a girl. So the bright, festive pattern reminded me of a lavish, rich wedding, where everyone is having fun in honor of the newlyweds. Gifts, treats, wishes for a happy life and a wonderful offspring!! And only the bride- young and tender, dressed in beautiful clothes and expensive jewelry, is deeply unhappy. She is afraid of the future unknown life, how she will enter the spouse's house, whether she will be able to overcome her fears and dislike for her spouse. After all, she has no choice! And it's not even that she is powerless, spineless and wordless. No! (Mountain women are very strong personalities! ) She simply follows the code of honor that was sacred to all highlanders! To break the word given by the father means to lose honor and dignity! What times there were! Lovely and soupy at the same time! Sometimes I want to tell you more than the description of the picture can fit... maybe someday I will make a book where my ethnic works will be an epigraph for each story.

ARTIST STATEMENT I was born in a place and time that had strong racist and nationalist sentiments. All my childhood I tried to hide my origin, fearing aggression from children. Under the influence of society, I left my work, which always dealt with ethical topics. After many years, I returned to creativity, already in adulthood. Now I am protesting to a society that has prejudices and judgments that violate the rights of national minorities. My credo in life is not to deceive yourself, not to forget who he was born and to carry his cultural code. I love history and material heritage. very often I compare my childhood memories with emotions, thus the plot of my works arises. From time to time I immerse myself in my childhood memories and feel the emotions that I experienced as a child. But now my life experience is already superimposed on it, and these memories take on new outlines, which form the basis of the plot of my works. Carpet weaving inspires me especially. carpet weaving. I feel the feminine essence of my grandmothers and great-grandmothers reviving in me. After all, just like my mother, they were all engaged in this craft. The carpet-weaving ritual always sends my thoughts back to my distant childhood and transports me to the land of my ancestors, like an instant wind. Unlike my ancestors, I "weave" carpets using canvas and a brush. In my "carpets", which will bring an authentic twist to any modern interior, I combine traditional artistic materials with new ones. A peculiar connection of generations on canvas, in which both classical oil and practical acrylic are found. In my works, you can see a collective image of a Caucasian girl of the past years, which reflects the traditions, character and mentality of that time to the viewer. Through the prism of modernity, where the boundaries of what is permissible and forbidden are erased, in a world where there are no duties, but only rights, this girl, like a fragile delicate flower , makes her way to life, through the cold stone jungle of technological cities. Popularizing the art of the ancient people of the Caucasus, I want to remind people of their roots, not only those from the Caucasus, but everyone. In the modern progressive world, where the boundaries of cultures and religions are being erased, it is necessary to preserve its authenticity. Your nationality is yours uniqueness, not a disadvantage!
