About The Artwork

In my work, I seek the revelation of the composition and structure within the improvisational beginning as it emerges during the more reasoned stage of the process. My interest is in the balance point between the raw and primitive and the refined. I use my visual language to create a dialogue between the paint and the canvas. My alphabet includes color, texture, mark making, layers, drips, and line. My process includes chance, letting go, knowing, not knowing, losing control and getting it back. My paintings often contain deeply personal narratives sometimes hidden even to myself, yet they reveal themselves to me over time. At times my subject is the beauty of paint itself in the abstract expressionist tradition. . "I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for." - Georgia O'Keeffe.

GG Reid lives and works in Dallas, TX after previously living and working in the greater NYC area for 20 years. GG Reid is an award-winning artist who has been actively showing in NY, CT, and more recently in TX. She is an emerging artist with a growing national presence. Her work is in many private and corporate collections, as well a celebrity collection in the US. Statement: I paint large-scale abstract works that utilize a great expanse of brilliant color and layers of texture. My process begins as a primarily intuitive approach in which gestural forms emerge as I begin the work on canvas on the floor. The beginning stage is related to an improvisational dance, and music is often a muse. The next stage begins when I tack the loose canvas on the wall to contemplate what came of the intuitive stage which will inform what comes next. I seek the revelation of the composition and structure within the loose beginning and it emerges in the next stage. I use my visual language to create a dialogue between the paint and the canvas. My alphabet includes exuberant color, texture, mark making, layers, and line. My process includes chance, letting go, knowing, not knowing, losing control and getting it back. My paintings often contain deeply personal narratives, sometimes hidden even to myself, yet they continue to reveal themselves to me over time. At times my subject is the beauty of paint itself in the abstract expressionist tradition. My hope is that you will find magic, mystery, and your own meaning within them. -GG Reid "Brilliant color and exuberant abstraction" -Susan Hardesty, Juror "Outstanding color and value, composition and design, originality and technique" -The American Juried Art Salon
