ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Robotics, a wonder of the modern age A blend of mechanics and digital sage With gears and circuits, it comes alive A machine with a purpose, it strives From factories to space and beyond Robotics has a role to respond Building cars, assembling parts It works tirelessly, with no retorts With sensors and cameras, it can see And with its grippers, it can seize A world of possibility it brings In the hands of creators, it sings Artificial intelligence, the mind Allows it to be more refined With learning and decision-making Robotics is always evolving But with this power comes a fear Of machines that may become too dear To our jobs, our lives, our fate But we must remember, it's not too late To use robotics for good, not harm To make our lives easier, not alarm A bright future lies ahead With robotics, we'll pave the way, not dread Robotics, a marvel of our time A technology that will always shine A symbol of progress, a sign of hope A partner in our journey, as we continue to cope.

While Mark M. Whelan's art is primarily portraits and figurative pictures. However, his aim is not to represent a beautiful image of a person or an individual in a futuristic context; rather, it’s an ongoing exploration of the process of how art is created concerning its structure, composition, colour, and technique. Like many figurative painters of his generation, it’s impossible for Whelan to avoid the looming shadows of Francisco Goya, Francis Bacon, Hieronymus Bosch and Lucian Freud, all of which have dominated the figurative world, their paintings both evocative, emotional and full of existential angst and anticipation of an uncertain future. However, Whelan is finding his futuristic path into the light, away from these titans of the art world, his work constantly seeking to go beyond the discipline of representational art and the more gestural expressionism that we are familiar with in the figurative paintings of Bacon.
