What I know now is the result of what I’ve learnt, what I knew and what I believe. Rasim Michaeli is a painter whose complex artistic creations have been enriched by the dramatic changes which have occurred along his life. Despite having to overcome adverse circumstances, he has taken the positive aspects from what he has seen, and embraced the cultures of the countries that destiny has led him to. He believes that creativity comes from the desire to constantly experiment. The exhibition Apariciones (paintings from 2015) currently being held at Kazarian Art Centre, is the result of a methodical approach that has seen the artist use both figurative and abstract styles. The artist recognises that both of these approaches have given him deep insight, and each one has helped him become more aware of the other. In Rasim’s paintings, objects soar in their newfound freedom. Enjoying their fleeting release from preconceived ideas. The true nature of the object is revealed with the use of energetic and vibrant brush strokes, essentially eliminating any superfluous detail. These forms, which burst with energy, come from within the artist and reflect the depth of his inner feelings. There is a sense of space in the artist’s work, which not only heightens the tension, but further stimulates the senses, penetrating the subconscious and eliminating barriers which impede awareness. The colours, submissive in the artist’s hands, help to give the forms prominence. Subtle changes from grey to deep black and white, produce limitless shades and hues. The colours, like the rich texture of sound from an exotic instrument, give special meaning to the subject. Whilst the inclusion of intense colours reveals a parallel work, where awareness is perceived through the senses and emotions. In his paintings the artist encourages the viewer to come to their own interpretation. Thus, allowing the viewer to contribute to the work, through their feelings and understanding. The feeling of unknown enables the viewer to become totally immersed, silencing the sounds of the world around them and culminating in sensory and emotional symphonies. These melodies penetrate our world and install themselves in the subconscious of the viewer. Through his work the painter offers an alternative reality, free from our everyday inner constraints. I capture in my paintings my emotions, my way of understanding art. I talk about my travel, painting, music, film and literature.
