ABOUT THE ARTWORK
With the etching medium I was able to combine my drawing with found objects that I placed on the steel plate. This ability to accurately record my biological forms with my drawing made this medium right for these pieces. I wanted to demonstrate a view that was at once original and also absolutely unique. Also, these pieces because of the inclusion of the found plant forms escaped my absolute control of the outcome. These works have never been shown before this posting on Saatchi.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
