Tellus is the extension of nature and at the same time the creator of it. She was carved out of a linden tree by hands of the master using only a chisel. Elena is a latvian-based artist. The place where she lives and creates her own magical world now is called Ozolnieki, Latvia (in Latvian – the land of oaks). Elena was twelve when she decided to enter an art school. Living in a small Russian village it took hours for her to get there. Nevertheless she never thought of quitting. After graduating from school she chose artistic wood, stone and bone carving as her major at the Abramtsevo Art Industrial College. After finishing her studies, Elena taught painting, graphic arts, decorative composition, sculpture and wood carving techniques to kids at Dyatkovo children’s art school. In 1987 she moved to Latvia where she met her future husband and started her career as a professional artist. Elena is a very creative person and loves exploring different types of art. Sculpture is one of Elenas major passions. She loves moulding and carving her vision into a real object and every little detail adds to a story of it. Over the years, she has created multiple fascinating art dolls and art objects, several of which were carved out of wood. Elena is one of the most prominent art doll artists in Baltics and she has been teaching the process of creating art dolls to kids and adults. In the last couple of years, Elena has focused on painting. Especially she adores oil painting due to vibrant colours and texture that oil adds to an object. With her masterful technique every stroke of a brush becomes alive on the canvas. Her thoughtfully created artworks are in private collections in different parts of the world. Elena has participated in a variety of exhibitions at home and abroad. She has organised solo exhibitions of her artwork in several national museums of Latvia. Additionally, she has organised exhibitions of art created by her students in Latvia.
