About The Artwork

This piece is from the collection of work in my solo exhibition titled "Ontogenesis" ( the development of the individual from the earliest stages to maturity). The exhibit explored the development and continued nuance in religion and ritual across cultures. This particular piece is one of three works exploring the use of icons in ritual practice. Out of respect for the beliefs of practitioners, the piece is deliberately nonspecific in features as well as gender and is meant to embody the idea of deific representation most commonly seen in animistic practices. (Improper presentation of deities can invoke the entities into profane spaces and is viewed as sacrilegious.) The title "Veron" is a word from latin meaning various and diverse, further noting the piece's intent to symbolize multifarious ritual approaches.

email is sdtompkins at live.com IG is stacytompkinsart I have work available in every price point Two-dimensional work: Inspired by microscopy images, themes of spiritual energy and hidden knowledge, my work explores the invisible realms in which we are enveloped, but rarely acknowledge. Sculpture: My mixed media sculptures focus on the psyche, ritual and meaning-making. The works deconstruct the transcultural aspects of ritual, sacred tool/ ritual object evolution, and the role biology plays in the archetypal development of deities. The pieces raise questions surrounding the origins of belief and spiritual identity.
