Rick Rothenberg

I am fascinated by the idea of using simple math to create complex art. My work takes simple geometric shapes and adjusts them using combinations of common functions that you might encounter in a high school math course. I then render these decidedly unrealistic objects as realistically as I am able, producing images with a slightly surreal quality with complex details that emerge organically from the simple mathematical description. My influences are varied and range from Dr. John Chowning, a pioneer in digital sound synthesis to the abstract illusionist movement of the 70's.
