Zahra Kassam

Zahra Kassam is a Modern Abstract Painter who works in her own studio in Nairobi, Kenya.

Born and raised in Kenya, Zahra’s work as an artist is influenced by her early exposure to artists such Gustave Caillebotte and Claude Monet. As a young artist, Zahra’s work was a form of therapeutic expression. While recovering from brain surgery at a very young age, the canvas was both a tool and an outlet for Zahra.

Over the years, Zahra’s work has evolved with her desire for representation and her own reflections of what it means to be a modern artist on the continent. It is important for Zahra to be able to produce work that speaks to the complexity, voice and diversity of African Art.

This desire is very much reflected in Zahra’s style, which leans heavily on her love for colour in all its richness, depth, and texture. Using a mixture of mediums, such as acrylic and oil on canvas, her style focuses on abstract and moods.

Zahra has been featured in exhibitions in Italy and Kenya and has sold to various individual collectors globally.
