Inner Light 2020 60” x 60” acrylic on canvas & neon The visual aspect is real and immediate – you see line and light. The canvas which is devoid of any paint represents self and the neon inner light/spirit. - The best thing that belief can do for you is give you a sense of renewal every day. It doesn’t matter if every dawn brings a new beginning if you are enclosed in the same old self. By being aware of your most positive beliefs you see new possibilities. This is because every positive belief contains possibilities that naturally expand. To love is to desire more love. To be a survivor gives you more reason to survive. To become a creative person increases your appetite for more creative outlets. Positive beliefs are life supporting and they gain their power from your true self which constantly motivates you to evolve and expand. The key beliefs that are supported by the true self no matter who we are talking about or what their situation is. A few standout beliefs are: It is better to be open than closed off, life is always open to new possibilities, and for every challenge there is a solution. What’s important to know is when you reach this pace inside, your inner light or true self as Deepak calls it all of these beliefs come naturally. Next comes a newfound confidence, you find yourself being open, a feeling safe and knowing that a solution is around the corner. Not because you work through every possibility which can be done but because you have found the source of all possibilities within the silence of your awareness. I or me has been open to change since birth. You are not the same I that you were years ago or even last month. The only identity that doesn’t change is the true self. Therefore, it can’t be wounded by the past or hurt by painful memories. The true self believes only the eternal present & the infinite potential contained there. -Deepak Chopra This painting is from a show I recently had with artist Gabrielle Graves. per•spec•tives Both artists’ current body of work focuses on the idea of perspectives, each artist approaches it with her own unique emphasis and skillset. Cotton’s conceptual painting is meant to bring awareness to mental wellness and emotional intelligence by using visual metaphors and color to embody concepts such as transformation, and possibility. Graves explores the complex narrative of identity and its intersection with consumption and mental health. Her process employs photography, painting, video, and installation to create intimate experiences revolving around changing landscapes and internal dialogue.
