I'm a huge fan of 1970's and earlier styling. In this case, the home was a time capsule of these aesthetics: green carpet, yellow countertops, wallpaper that matched the bedspreads... an enthusiastic, jovial atmosphere. It felt like the perfect setting to make a work about life's domestic anxieties, in an equally absurd and playful fashion. Photographed in a medium format film on a Hasselblad camera. “Caught in a state of permanent suspense vis a vis events that have just happened or are about to take place, photographs contain essential seeds of narratives that can never come to fruition except in the imagination.” Lucy Soutter Things I Never Told You points to the ways in which we make sense of ourselves and of the world. Playing with the visual syntax of advertisement and fashion photography, which inform the fantasies we have of who we are, Prince constructs narratives and then carefully disrupts them. Her efforts reflect life as it is lived, informed by culture but nuanced and singular.
