About The Artwork

Adaugo is the third piece in my collection, "You and I in Color." With the collection, I really wanted to explore how colors could show a new side of people that my previous media (charcoal and paper) just couldn't. Each piece in the collection is named after the muse in this collection because I'm trying to capture their essence and put it on canvas; surely, their name must come along for the ride. Adaugo in my native tongue (Igbo) loosely translates to daughter of wealth and royalty. I love it because, regardless of your background, we all want to believe that we are special and cherished. It's a significant part of our identity as humans. Naturally, I had to include it in the collection. When you look at Adaugo, I hope you get the feeling of importance and self worth.

Hi. My name is Lynda Charles and art helped me find myself at a point where I was asking, “what do I do with my life?” Here I am several years later, a self-taught artist drawn to creating pieces that talk about our life as human beings, and our relationship with each other. I confess that I prefer portraying the female form because I find it so much more interesting. One of my biggest goals is to make every piece I create tell an emotional story. Because of this, my media has evolved over the years from charcoal on paper to charcoal and acrylic on canvas. This is also why I prefer making large works and taking my time; I believe the smallest details, whether it’s facial expressions or shades and hues, render the most meaning. Take a minute to browse my portfolio and see if any of these stories speak to you.
