Series of works NICU are based on author's reflections on one of the most important Christian themes - Our Lady's suffering as well as on the nature of suffering in general. Since the moment of conception Virgin Mary knew about Her Child’s inevitable suffering in future and early death, and she went toward this tragic event during 33 years. The depth of suffering in case of child's severe illness and death is immeasurable. The author's personal experience and observations spending many months together with her own child in hospital reflected in artistic works, in which author tries to show specific NICU atmosphere and mood, as well as to achieve deeper insight into the nature of suffering.

Latvia
I graduated Art Academy of Latvia, Painting department, both Bachelor and Master programs in 2018. Now I work as a painter and also as a teacher of composition and summer studies (sketching and painting) in the Art Academy of Latvia. ARTIST STATEMENT: I like to paint portraits and figurative compositions, landscapes, animals. One of my favourite theme in art is the concept of memory. I travel, search and paint old stone and wooden barns and houses to keep the memory of them in my works (mostly with watercolour and egg tempera on linen). I also search for 19th and 20th century wooden and metal boxes and other things at the flea markets, and make assemblages, which keep the memories of the people who are already gone. I am searching for some other persons' belongings and I'm interested in the moments when these things and connected with them memories become impersonal, but only the evidence of some people's past. I also create small wooden sculptures, which remind some past feelings or thoughts, or something elusive, undetermined.
