"Please, understand" was the product of an art exhibit that had it's core in the creole Peruvian singer, Lucha Reyes. A very popular singers from the early 70's. I decided to work with the structure of her songs. For the most part, they are tales of relationships that cannot go on or that are doom from the beginning. In general, they don't have happy endings. Yet, the musical arrangement invites you to dance and/or have a drink while you sing along. Perhaps has some kind of catharsis. So I attempted to expressed these contrasting points -sadness & joyfulness- with a suicide scene of non other than Felix -The Cat-. While the blood, the breakup love letter -which is in fact the lyrics of the song- and a portrait based on Lucha Reyes's image, tells us the story of the fatal ending of such love story. Yet some how, the oneiric and candy like world in which this story is set, makes it somewhat, less tragic. Allowing us to see a death scene and go: Awww! Poor Felix.
