Bérengère Labarthe, "Lab-Art" is a contemporary French painter and sculptor from Bordeaux. Graduated of the EDAAG and honoured with the silver medal of the city of Bordeaux, Lab-Art's artistic career has been shaped by her diverse education and numerous travels. Raised between France and Africa, Lab-Art’s childhood experiences instilled in her, a deep appreciation for primitive Afro-Oceanian art, which continues to influence her work until today. Her travels around the world have enriched her artistic perspective, exposing her to a myriad of cultures and traditions. Lab-Art’s artistic career took a remarkable turn when she realized her childhood dream and joined a circus. Initially a decorator, Lab-Art’s boundless determination and dedication led her to embark on a rigorous training program, which resulted in becoming an aerial gymnast for 17 years, captivating audiences around the world. Throughout her bohemian life in the circus, Lab-Art continued to pursue her passion for art, drawing inspiration from the encounters and experiences she had along the way. After a decade-long tour of the United States, Lab-Art returned to France, armed with a treasure of notes and sketches accumulated during her travels. Drawing on these experiences, she brings to life captivating portraits and sculptures of faces and animals from around the world Lab-Art’s works have already found their place in collections in the United States, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom Germany and France, testimony to the universal appeal of her art. With each stroke of brush and sculpture, Lab-Art invites the viewer on a journey across continents, capturing the essence of humanity and the beauty of the natural world.
