“Crab” by Maya de Almeida is part of a limited edition of 15 pieces. Part of the FORM - Water series. Printed exclusively on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta museum grade paper which sets the standard for image definition and colour depth. This is a 325gsm 100% lignin free alpha-cellulose archival paper with pigment ink. Each print comes guaranteed with a Certificate of Authenticity, indicating that you have purchased an original work. All prints are gallery-quality, archival Giclee-prints that feature a 10 cm (4 in) white border around the image. This series is an ode to minimalism. It hopes to share a sense of freshness and of space where the viewer can share in the openness of the Atlantic ocean when its at peace. A rare occasion when its lays down its arms and simply exists. Shot entirely underwater in 2 separate locations in the Atlantic Ocean. This project is a first step toward abstracted, non-literal representation. A work that sets out to visually represent the essence of a concept or physical form. Pieces are the result of a collaboration with nature. The element of water is co-creator. Density, luminosity and motion to play a role in the creative process. By removing the human element, form is more supple and able to exist organically in its environment. Resulting work took on a life of its own with shape and light behaving the way it only can in water.

Maya Almeida Araujo has exhibited globally and had sites structurally adapted for her pieces. She is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose practice considers art as a platform for connection. With a focus on the element of water, the work floats between the spheres of still and moving images, artistic installation, and site specific work. Navigating the confluence of nature, art and technology, her work has developed through critical engagement with her own mind and body in a way that examines fundamental questions of how human beings relate to themselves and to their environment. Adopting a unique approach to each work, Maya draws on personal experience, culture and ancient philosophy to create visceral immersive experiences. An invitation to step into an imaginary world in a way that is both sensorial and profoundly intimate. It asks how we can come together and ultimately, heal. London is home but Maya was born in Lisbon to Portuguese/Belgian/German parents. She studied Biology at Imperial College, London. Her artistic path was one of auto-didacticism with training at Central Saint Martins, with best in class equipment manufacturers and under some of the greatest image makers such as Tim Flach and Lois Greenfield. The work consistently pushes technological boundaries in search for a truer realisation of the intended experience. Recent projects have involved developing custom rigs for film-making in the open ocean, multi-screen editing at ground breaking levels of resolution, colour depth, motion, interactive animation environments and producing hyper-textured ambisonic soundscapes. All in partnership with a collective of like-minded artistic collaborators and craftspeople without losing sight of her truth.
