About The Artwork
This sculpture was inspired by the linocut of the same name - Famous Ghost Ships. This compared the Mar Celeste to the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger, which blew up on take off. We have a media swarm of 'disaster' and mourning for the crew. Yet it turned out that almost all the crew of Challenger are alive and well. I use the warhorse because of its link to the ancient world, particularly by the Greeks. The old world fell to the new, brought about by Christianity - now despised, yet never conquered. The sculpture has not joined properly underneath, can be viewed on photos, this however has not made it prone to breaking.
