About Josephine Jost
Painting has always been my passion, first traditional and now digital painting. Using scanned and collected material such as images from the media such as newspaper and television, I paint digitally. I am interested in the new media that is available to us all and how this leads us to spend a lot of our time looking at screens of some form or another whether it is a mobile phone, computer or television screen. Much of my sources are taken from these screens and reworked into my own form of digital painting. In looking at the media, I look are people portrayed to us in the media and how they are presented to us. I am inspired by the video art of Bill Viola and Nam June Paik and the Internet based artworks of Jonathan Harris. I grew up in East Germany, did my fine art training in London, England and am now working in Pretoria, South Africa.
